Cold Coffee Milkshake
Cold coffee is a culture in India. It’s a treat that you have at night when you’re going for a drive as the warm day is just beginning to cool off. It’s a mid morning pick-me-up when you feel like having something indulgent. It’s also the perfect drink to treat unexpected guests. It’s easy to whip together, and it’s always delicious. Cold coffee in India has a subtle coffee flavor that is practically a milkshake. It’s sweet and creamy and perfect every time.
Ingredients:
Chocolate syrup, homemade or your favorite brand (I use the chocolate cardamom sauce from this recipe)
2 tbsp. warm water
1-2 tbsp. Instant coffee powder (adjust to taste)
1-2 tbsp. Sugar (adjust to taste)
1 ¾ cup milk (whole or 2% or dairy free)
Malai ice cream - 1-2 scoops*
Drizzle chocolate syrup within the sides of the serving glasses. Place in the refrigerator until the rest of the components are ready.
In a blender, on high speed, mix together warm water, instant coffee and sugar until the mixture is frothy, and the sugar and coffee are completely dissolved.
Add milk and ice cream and blend until smooth.
Pour into prepared glasses and serve cold.
*There are a variety of Malai’s ice creams you could use here. Classics would be Sweet Milk or Sea Salt Vanilla. To amp up the coffee flavor, Turkish Coffee would be delicious. I am a big fan of the Turkish Coffee /Orange Fennel combination, however, so I’m partial to using Orange Fennel in this drink.
